Connects refunds on Upwork. When does it happen?

There are so many myths around connects refunds. Let me share really quick when will you get a refund from Upwork bids.

You will receive refunds when:

  1. If a client cancels a project before a contract is made, your Connects will be returned (does not apply to expired posts).
  2. If Upwork removes a project post for violating Terms of Service, your Connects will be returned.

However!!!

You won't be refunded if in the 1st type of jobs:

  • client already clicked on you (interacted with you in any way)
  • shortlisted you
  • unlisted you (clicked dislike)
  • messaged you

Also, you won't be refunded on the other types of jobs if:

  • The client rejects your proposal
  • The client chooses another freelancer
  • The job expires without a hire
  • You withdraw your proposal

For boosts outbids,

you'll be refunded the difference in your connects again only if no one interacted with you.

So for example, you paid 10 connects to bid on a job + 100 connects for boost, then 4 other people boosted more (110,120,130,140), so you will be not on a top anymore. You will be refunded for 100 connects only if noone interacted with your proposal.

However, if there was an interaction, then you'll be charged for 110 connects even if you are number 100500 now in the list.
