Expert Vetted badge: How to get it and is it worth it?

Today I opened my eyes and got around 12 messages right away. Upwork has announced that you can get an Expert Vetted badge now without an invitation. You need to pay 300 connects and fill out the form to apply.

What is an Expert Vetted badge?

Upwork has an Expert-Vetted badge. It shows that you are the top 1% freelancer on the platform which is not always true. They have a list of categories that may apply:

  • Web, Mobile, and Software Development
  • IT and Networking
  • Data Science and Analytics
  • Design and Creative
  • Sales and Marketing
  • HR
  • Consulting
  • Writing

They SHOULD give you a badge like that

But almost all of the time it looks like:

Is it worth to get it?

I hate to talk about nothing. So you can read about "perks" here. But my personal opinion is yes, it is worth it because:

  1. You will see invite-only jobs (and be able to apply)
  2. Who knows how the algorithm will work tomorrow? Take everything from Upwork

How to get it?

  1. Fill out the form. It looks like that:

Here provide the maximum of information and write as much as you can. This form is more important than the interview itself. Your application will be filtered based on exactly.

  1. Pass the interview. Yes, the profile should be the real person. Yes, with a camera. Yes, in English.

Actually, all the interview feedback I heard was quite light. Usually, you are asked very simple questions, even like 'Are you a developer?'. One time, the candidate had to write a piece of code in an IDE. You can't say in this interview that you are not a developer yourself, that you are just a founder, etc.
