WRONG Category
If you are bidding to the job post with the wrong profile, you are going to be downgraded in the list of bids. If you don't know what to do in Gigradar for that, for example, then you need to click on search by skills and add the exact name of your category in ""
WRONG Profile
You copied your template from John, but you are Linda. But your cover letters sounds like "Hello, blblabla. Regards, John"

Not haha!
Every second client is doing that. Re-check yours.
Wrong or broken portfolio
- Did you know that if you change your profile url, the portfolio items urls are changed as well?
- You changed profiles to bid from but didn't change urls of portfolios so when client wants to re-check Linda, he sees John portfolio items
No skills/work history match
This is about the pure Best Match algorithm. Don't forget that these are the core points to match with the job post so use your specialised profiles and add skills there.
Not a bright start

Make sure, people will open your cover letter.You need a bright start (joke, emoji, himan touch, question). You can't win by keeping your usual I am web dev with 10 years of experience.
No call to action
Similar to the previous one but about the end of the cover letter. Not "lets discuss job details" and please not "let's have a call"
Too boring or generic letters
blabla challenging blabla seasoned developer blabla 10 years of experience bla bla thrilled to bla.
Title of your general profile
Okay, a smaller tip here. Did you know that even when you are applying from specialised profile, on the first very first preview Upwork is showing your general profile title?
My clients don't have problems with that because they know the rule that you general profile is A+B where A is your 1st spec profile and B is the second.
But imagine this popular mistake:
- general profile UX Designer
- spec profile: Seo expert
- another spec profile: full stack dev
And you are applying to SEO job with spec profile SEO but client even not clicking because he sees only UX Designer for the first view.
No worries, match is still for spec profile.
