New way of scam on Upwork
Imagine, one day you are in heaven, agreed with the client and started a long-term project.
Hurray, the client is adding you to Slack and saying:
- you are going to add time manually on Upwork (okay...)
- You are going to work on someone else account time tracker via the remote desktop app (WTF!)
This is a scam.
Thanks to Oleksandr for allowing to share this case!
Upwork Trust and Safety took the situation seriously.
And the biggest worry was about JSS. Even if we didn't log any time/money and close the contract - client still can still leave private feedback, which will influence our JSS.
However, flagged clients may be excluded from the calculation. That's why Oleksandr made a great job insisting flagging this client
Also Trust and Safety team gave an exact instruction how to behave to save the account security and not be banned.
- He said to create a paper trail and go to Upwork messaging and write exactly: "Hi. I am not comfortable logging into a remote desktop to work under a different tracker. That violates Upwork's Terms of Service regarding Account Sharing. I can only work on this project if I am working locally on my own machine and tracking time via my own Upwork account."
- End the contract immediately with the reason: Client asked to work outside the platform/violates policy
- Do not log any hour
Afterwards, Oleksandr found that reasons were renamed so he reasked what to choose and here what is the right option:
