Hurray! New feature!

Upwork is testing a new feature called Work Now.

How does it work for clients?

As a client, if I need a job to be done right now and freelancer who could start within one hour, I go to post a job and to make a short-term project

Then I need to switch on the toggle right now,

Other things are the same except of some legal terms.

For freelancers

It's a beta feature so it will be available if:

your profile joins a pool of freelancers who are available right now
you switched ON this feature on your profile
you get a live feed of urgent jobs

It is for people who are really available.If you turn on Work Now, you should actually be ready to work. This is not a feature for checking messages every few hours.

5 mins

You have only 5 minutes to respond. Miss that window and your session ends.

On the website, your session also ends if you are inactive for five minutes. If you stop browsing jobs, reading messages, or checking offers, Upwork assumes you are no longer available.

Main terms

You need to be hired within 1 hour. It doesn't mean you need to deliver work within one hour. Only payment-verified clients can hire. If you didn't reply within 5 mins, Upwork may cool you down, which means you missed 2 out of 5 interactions and you won't be able to use Work Now for the next 7 days.

What is not Work now?

Available now badge and Boost and Available for consultations roght now features are not the same as Work now feature!

Legal stuff

Did you know I am a Master of Law? I even worked in a Prosecutor's Office. Love reading legal stuff and just did it. Upwork has a very special "Upwork Now Beta Addendum" where they mention other more prioritised rules you need to agree on.

Some interesting ones:

Upwork can automatically invite freelancers
Upwork counts not only replies, but also declines. There is no punishment for declining
There is a punishment system that is barely visible in the Help Center. If you miss one response out of five:

you may be removed from Work Now
you will receive a warning
after that, you can reactivate your session

If you miss two responses out of the last five:

you are removed
you receive a 7-day cooldown
for seven days, you cannot activate Work Now

!!After the cooldown, the previous missed response does not disappear automatically. To return to clean standing, you need to respond on time to the next five inbound interactions.

Same-day start does not mean same-day delivery
Upwork tracks the foreground and background state of the mobile app. This is the most interesting part for me, because by agreeing to use this feature, you also agree to even more tracking of your account
The system will learn from your accept and decline patterns
Upwork can change almost everything without prior notice
