Recently, I've been on a battle Fiverr vs Upwork and found a great term (I stole it from Pavlo - a speaker who stood up for Fiverr). However, even though I am a strong Upwork believer, I also think that the project catalog (which is kind of a Fiverr copy) should work the same way.

So what is Service Productization?

Service productization means taking something that is usually delivered in a flexible, customized way (a service) and packaging it into a standardized, clearly defined product.

Instead of saying “I do web design - tell me what you need”, you turn it into a fixed-scope, fixed-price offering like:

“I will design a 5-page responsive website in 7 days for $500.”

In the other words, you need to think what you can sell repeatedly?

Framework for Service Productization on Upwork

  1. Choose what you sell.

Think, what clients are buying from you all the time repeatedly?

Not “I do everything,” but one clear thing.

  1. Write what is included. I recommend 3 included, 3 not included

Clearly:
✅ 3 logo concepts
✅ 2 revisions
❌ full website redesign or extra banners

  1. Make packages. At least think how can you divide/separate?
  • Maybe, Basic - small and cheap? One revision? One section?
  • Standard (most clients buy this)/ Maybe what's default in your area of expertise?
  • Premium. full pack with extras?

As an example:

  • Basic: 1 logo concept, 2 days, $50
  • Standard: 3 logo concepts + revisions, 5 days, $150
  • Premium: 5 logo concepts, full brand kit, 7 days, $300
  1. Set a realistic delivery time

Write how many days you need: 2 days, 5 days, 1 week.

Take with buffer, so you don’t burn out.

  1. Show your process

Show that you have a method — it builds trust.

Make it easy:

  • Client gives info
  • You send first draft
  • Client gives feedback
  • You send final work
  1. Make it look nice.

People like people so I highly recommend to put there either your video or your face:)

  • Title: simple and clear (“I will design a 5-page website in 7 days”)
  • Images: your work samples or mockups
  • FAQ: answer common questions (“What if I need more revisions?”)
  1. Test test test

My fav method - test what works for you and what is not.

tadadaam!

For the whole week, I was fucked up with teenagers having parties at my building, so today I look like this. If you want to make my day better, you can consider giving me more coffee https://buymeacoffee.com/levit
